How does the world address are the world's energy challenges-unilaterally by the energy industry, with benign oversight by policy makers? Or does conflict exist between the two?

In the opening plenary session I could see the conflict of interest despite all talking about cooperation and collaboration. The conflict, to me is the very word 'intelligent' ! For a profit making company clever approach is to improve IRR by accelarating production and hence profit. For a prudent national oil company it is all about increasing ultimate recovery. For a service company, an intelligent approach is to help both to improve their bottom line. So in the end, the one who gets affected by this focused intelligence is us, the mankind and it's future. All need to expand to their intelligence to a general interest. Government, oil giants, and service companies have to collaborate for the greater good of humanity. Only then we can successfully address the energy crisis of today and of future, and that's intelligent synergy!

The role of government has to be in devising policies that encourage innovation and to develop "smart"policies to enable the collaboration between the industry, academia and other stakeholders. World governments need to seriously discuss and brainstorm about the future of IP and the patenting in the era of cloud and global innovation.

No gain is accomplished from the government hindering the energy section from providing. It is unhealthy for any political authority to stand between the energy providers and the needs of their customers .

Goverment role ia to regulate not to operate.. even NOCs have to be independent from political interference and politicians meddling in its affairs.

How can there be better integration and standardisation of processes, workflows, and standards? Recently PIDX, Energistics, PPDM and several leaders of the upstream oil and gas standard organisations agreed to form the Standards Leadership Council. One of the objectives could be to create a cadence to help answer the question.
